Makio Kōdai is a shy 35-year-old woman. She works as a novelist. One day, her sibling and her sibling's married partner die in a car accident. Makio Kōdai attends their funeral and meets her 15-year-old niece Asa Takumi, who is now left alone due to her parents’ death. The other relatives at the funeral speak insensitive words around Asa Takumi. Makio Kōdai gets furious at them and decides to take in her niece.
